Turmeric & Cinnamon Porridge

Porridge is the perfect Winter warmer breakfast. It uses such little ingredients AND gives a slow energy release to keep you going during the day.

The key ingredient in this porridge that makes it stand out is the Turmeric. Known for its vibrant colour and prominent use in curries, It has a deep history rooted in Chinese and Indian medicine due to its natural health benefits.

I had this porridge with a sliced banana and a drizzle of honey but it could also be served as a savoury porridge (like congee in Asian cuisine) with wilted spinach and a poached egg.

Serves 2

  • 1 *ceramic* rolled oats (see photo below)
  • 3 *ceramic* liquid of your choice (I used full fat milk)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Measure your rolled oats with a small ceramic bowl (or whatever measurement you choose) and place in small pan. Turn the pan to a medium heat and toast the oats until they release a nutty smell.

Now fill the ceramic with milk 3 times and add to the pan. The pan will sizzle at first and the mixture will seem very watery. Now add the cinnamon and turmeric and incorporate it well.

Keep the porridge on a medium heat, stirring constantly for approx 10 minutes until it meets a NEARLY perfect consistency. Now turn off the heat and place the lid on the pan for 10 minutes to allow it to steam to perfection..

Serve with a sliced banana and a drizzle of honey.
